Visa categories explained

  • Visa-free No paperwork before you fly. Just turn up with a valid passport (and onward ticket if asked).
  • Visa on arrival Buy or stamp at the airport on landing. Bring USD cash, photos, and patience.
  • eVisa / eTA Apply online before you fly. Approval is usually 24–72 hours; print or save the email.
  • Visa required Embassy appointment, fees, supporting docs. Plan 2–8 weeks ahead.

Before you book

  • Six-month passport rule: most countries require 6+ months validity from your entry date.
  • Onward ticket: visa-free entry usually requires proof you'll leave (return or onward flight).
  • Schengen 90/180: if Europe is on the list, check our Schengen calculator too.
  • Always cross-check: embassy or government site is authoritative — this tool is a starting point.

Frequently asked questions

  • Henley Passport Index — the standard cross-border-mobility dataset published by Henley & Partners, refreshed annually with quarterly updates. We cache the data at build time so the page is instant.

  • Highly accurate for visa-free / visa-on-arrival / eVisa / required categories. But policies change quickly — always confirm with the destination embassy or your airline before booking. We're not a substitute for an embassy.

  • No — pick the passport you'll travel on. Dual nationals: the destination's rules apply to whichever passport you present at immigration. Most countries don't recognise dual citizenship for entry.

  • Electronic Travel Authorization — a quick online pre-clearance (Canada eTA, US ESTA, UK ETA, EU ETIAS). It's not a visa, but you can't board without it. Apply 72+ hours before flying.
